This Privacy Policy explains what information sailingwego (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

• Email address — used for authentication (magic-link sign-in) and service notifications.
• Profile information — display name, username, profile photo, and boat details you choose to add.
• Sailing logs — log entries, photos, routes, crew lists, weather data, and any other content you create.

Information collected automatically

• Usage data — page views and feature interactions, collected in aggregate to improve the service.
• Log data — server logs including IP address, browser type, and referring URL, retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes.

2. How we use your information

• To create and manage your account.
• To display your logs and profile to you and, based on your privacy settings, to other users.
• To send authentication links and essential service emails (no marketing without your consent).
• To maintain service security and investigate abuse.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your Content to train AI models.

3. Sharing your information

We share your information only in these circumstances:

• Infrastructure providers — we use Supabase for database and storage. Data is processed in accordance with their data processing agreements.
• Other users— content you mark as public or “friends” is visible to others accordingly. Your username and profile are visible to any logged-in user.
• Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users.

4. Log visibility and crew tagging

Each log entry has a visibility setting: public, friends, or private. Public logs are visible to anyone. When you tag a crew member, the log appears on their profile at your chosen visibility level. Tagged crew may remove themselves from a log at any time.

5. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data and Content will be deleted within 30 days. Anonymised aggregate statistics may be retained indefinitely.

6. Your rights

You may at any time:

• Access and update your profile from your account settings.
• Delete individual logs or your entire account.
• Request a copy of your data by contacting us.

If you are in the EEA or UK, you have additional rights under GDPR / UK GDPR, including the right to erasure, restriction of processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.

7. Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

8. Children

sailingwego is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or a notice on the site before the changes take effect.
